Gaaunle Himaal ~ Dhaulagiri (8,167m) as framed from HandiKot, Jaimini Municipality, Baglung.
The Nepali name धौलागिरी (dhaulāgirī) is/was derived from Sanskrit where धवल (dhawala) means dazzling, white, beautiful and गिरि (giri) means mountain.
Most of us might not be familiar with its history. From 1808 to 1847, Dhaulagiri was considered as the highest mountain in the world which now is reverred as the 7th highest.
As this bold and beautiful mountain can be spotted readily from almost every parts of Dhaulagiri zone and especially from my homeland, Baglung too, we name(d) it Gaaunle Himaal.
